We shared 3 bottles: a 2011 Chalk Hill Sauvignon blanc from the Russian River, a 2008 Titus Napa Valley Petite Syrah; and a 1994 Louis Jadot Pouilly Fusse. The Jadot, unfortunately, was far over the hill.

Bob Haunschild, our speaker last week, sent an invitation to the Rotary Club of Hemet Sunrise Golf Classic, which will be held on October 24 at the Four Seasons resort in Hemet. The cost of $65 a person and $260 a foursome includes green fees and a box lunch. Proceeds will benefit the club foundation. If you are interested in teeing up, call 951-658-7434.

Bill Irwin’s last bike ride will take place on September 10. Once again, he is generously using it as a fund-raiser for the foundation. Supporters who pledge $250 or more ($.15/mile) will again be feted with a special dinner as our way of saying “thanks.” More information will be available shortly on the club web site.

Our speaker was Linda Jahnke, who talked about long-term care insurance. Geriatric care is the fastest growing part of the health-care industry, and home care is the fastest growing part of the geriatric care industry. Yet the costs keep on rising by 5% a year or so. This is a critical concern that we are only now realizing that we need to pay attention to.
