The Pitch, November 14, 2012

Last week, we really enjoyed 2 bottles of Woodinhead Pinot Noir, a 2004 from Anderson Valley and a 2004 Russian River Valley; a 2011 Louis Jadot Beaujolais Villages; and a 2011 Willamette Valley Vineyards Pino Gris.

This week, we shared a 2011 Chateau Ste. Michelle Columbia Valley Riesling; a 2009 McMurray Ranch Central Coast Pinot Noir; a 2010 Deloach Russian River Pinot Noir; and a 2007 Cambria Julia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir.

Perhaps we can change our name from the Wine club to the Pinot Noir club.

Last week, Ann-Shirley Goodell (welcome back, Rob and Ann-Shirley!) shared an update about the Afghanistan project we participated in with her Vancouver club. The uniforms and protective equipment for woman in the police have begun to arrive, though it’s not totally there yet. A video should be available soon.

This week, District Governor, Dick Stevens, shared a video and discussion of the fund-raising activities some local clubs are sponsoring. He pointed out that successful fund-raising is often accompanied by membership growth. He also reported that we are entering the end game of Rotary’s campaign to end polio. Only Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Nigeria have reported cases this year. And he alerted us to a couple district events in the near future. There will be a District Council on January 22 and a district-wide picnic at Liberty Station next May 18.

Congratulations to Max Gurney. On his recent trip to Europe, he was promoted to Commander with 2 stripes by the Wine Makers of Burgundy. We are very, very fortunate to count Max among our members.
